Fireflies AI Meeting Summaries: View, Customize, Expand, Regenerate
Last updated: March 17, 2026
Want a quick way to capture what happened in a meeting without rewatching the whole recording? Fireflies generates AI-powered summaries after every call—making it easy to review takeaways, next steps, action items, and more.
1. Where to find your summaries
Open your Fireflies Dashboard or navigate to the Meetings tab. Click on any past meeting to open the Fireflies Notepad.

You will land on your Fireflies Notepad. Your summary lives in the left column as shown below

2. What does a Fireflies AI summary include?
After a meeting ends, Fireflies automatically processes and generates a multi-part summary.

The "General Summary" has the following key sections by default:
🔎 Keywords: Quick scan of the most relevant terms from your meeting. Helps you spot recurring themes at a glance

📅 Meeting Overview: A short paragraph describing what the meeting was about. Think of this as your elevator pitch recap
Time-stamped Notes: Bullet-point notes grouped into chapters. Each section is linked to the transcript for deeper context.
✅ Action Items: Automatically assigned tasks with associated speakers. Great for accountability and follow-ups.
At the end of your summary, you’ll see a prompt to review the summary output. Use this to let us know how the summary performed—every star counts!

🔁 Tip: If you’re trying out a different summary template (e.g. Team Meeting or Interview), you can choose to apply it to all future meetings using the prompt that appears.

Want even more insights? You can customize what’s included in your summaries. Keep reading to learn how.
3. Customize your summary templates and sections
Fireflies lets you tailor summaries to match your workflow. This includes choosing from 18+ pre-built templates (like Team Meeting, BANT, Sales Calls)
✔ 1. Pick a summary template
Open a meeting from your Notebook
Click the dropdown next to the summary title (e.g. "General Summary")
Select a template like "Team Meeting," "Sales Calls," or "Interview Summary"

Fireflies will regenerate the summary in a few seconds
The selected template will auto-populate relevant sections based on the meeting type. Every template you choose—like Team Meeting, BANT, or Sales Call—comes with its own set of default sections. For example, if you pick the “Team Meeting” template, Fireflies automatically includes sections like Progress Review, Challenges, and Upcoming Milestones.

You’ll be asked whether to apply the template to all future meetings or just this one.
Switching between templates does not consume AI credits
✔ 2. Add or remove custom sections
Want to go a step further? You can add or remove sections to tailor the summary even more. Just click Customize, and choose what you want—like Blockers, Decisions, or Customer Needs.
Click Customize next to your summary template.
Pick your extra sections → hit Save & Apply, and your summary gets regenerated in a few seconds.

This flexibility means your meeting summaries stay focused, relevant, and actionable—no matter what kind of conversation it was.
Each extra section you add will use 1 AI Credit when a new summary is generated. For example, if you customize your summary with 4 additional sections, Fireflies will use 4 AI Credits for each new meeting processed. Learn more about AI Credits here.
4. Expand any part of the summary for deeper context
On Fireflies Pro plan and above, you can expand sections of your summary for a more detailed view.
To expand:
Hover over the summary section (e.g. Action Items or Meeting Notes)
Click the expand icon at the end of each point
Want to collapse it again? Just click the same icon

5. Regenerate summaries after edits
If you’ve edited your transcript or speaker labels, you may want a fresh summary or simply if you don't like the current summary.
To regenerate:
Make your edits to the transcript (click the ✎ icon)
Update speaker labels if needed
Click the ⋮ 3-dot menu > Regenerate. Fireflies will reprocess the summary within minutes.

Few things to note:
If you have AI Skills enabled, they’ll also be rerun after regeneration
You will have to be the meeting host/ owner to be able to regenerate the meeting summaries
