This guide covers steps to set meeting rules.
What are meeting rules?
Meeting rules are advanced join settings that comprise Bar Rules and Join Rules. These rules supersede all your join settings for meetings that contain a specific title or participant email.

How to set meeting rules?
Go to Settings and look for Meeting Rules. Here, you will find Bar Rules and Join Rules. Let us explore each of these rules.
Bar Rules - Stops Fireflies from joining meetings with specific titles
Bar rules prevent Fireflies from joining a meeting. It works only if your auto-join setting is on All meetings with web-conf link.
To set up Bar Rules, go to Meeting Rules and enter the keywords in the meeting title that you want Fireflies to ignore.
- In our example, we have configured fred@fireflies.ai to join all meetings, except meetings that have the words "family," "prayer," and "sarge" in the title. Similarly, you create a bar rule for a meeting titled “board meeting”. Now, if there's a calendar invite containing the title of the phrase “board meeting”, Fireflies will not join regardless of your auto-join settings. This is because Bar Rules take precedence over join settings.
- You can also create bar rules for individual email addresses and specific domains using email@domain.com or *@domain.com.
Join Rules - Fireflies joins meetings that have these specific titles
- The Join rules are the opposite of Bar Rules. It means that if your meeting title has a particular word and you have created join rules for it, Fireflies will join the meeting regardless of your auto-join settings.
- This rule works for all Auto-join Calendar Meetings except for All meetings with web-conf link.
- You can input keywords you want Fireflies to join. If the title of a meeting contains any of the words, it instructs fred@fireflies.ai to join that meeting.
- In our example, we have it configured so that fred@fireflies.ai joins meetings only when you explicitly invite it—except for meetings with the words "voice," "lessons," or "student" in the title.
- Like Bar Rules, Join Rules also allow you to add people from particular domains or email addresses.
Note: The meeting titles you enter within the Bar and Join rules are not case-sensitive.
