Fireflies Live Assist acts like a smart co-pilot during calls — so you can stay present, respond faster, and walk away with zero missed details.
Before you start using Fireflies Live Assist, make sure a few things are set up so everything runs smoothly during your meetings.
A Fireflies account connected to your calendar or conferencing tool (Google Meet, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams).
The Fireflies.ai Notetaker must join your meeting for Live Assist to work.
Live Assist is available on:
Web Dashboard
Mobile App
Chrome Extension (works without the bot)
Desktop App (coming soon)
Once Fireflies joins the meeting, you’ll automatically get a link to open Live Assist — no extra install or manual setup required.
You can open Fireflies Live Assist in two quick ways — choose whichever feels easier for you:
Option 1: From your meeting chat — When Fireflies joins your call, it automatically posts a default message in the meeting chat with a link to View Realtime notes.
Click this link to open the Live Assist pane immediately.

If you don’t see the message right away, wait about 30 seconds — that’s when Fireflies posts the Live Assist link in the meeting chat. It’s also pinned, so anyone who joins later can easily find it.
Option 2: From your Fireflies dashboard — You can also open Live Assist directly from the Home Dashboard on the web app. Look for the red LIVE label beside an ongoing meeting, and click Live Notes to open the same Live Assist pane.

Make sure you’re logged in to Fireflies — only logged-in users can view the Live Assist pane.
Once you open it, you’ll see a real-time workspace where Fireflies listens and automatically streams real-time notes and insights as your meeting happens. The meeting title and live timer at the top help you confirm which meeting you’re in and how long it’s been running.

Need a quick update during your meeting? Fireflies shows four smart options by default at the top of the Live Assist pane — helping you catch up, summarize, or review key points without typing or switching tabs.
Follow Up – Instantly suggests follow-up questions or next steps based on the conversation.
Catch Up (Last 1 min) – Summarizes what’s been discussed in the last minute — perfect if you joined late or got distracted.
Summarize So Far – Gives you a short mid-meeting recap of what’s been covered so far.
Action Items – Lists important tasks, next steps, or decisions mentioned in real time.
Example: Click Catch Up (Last 1 min) to see a short, AI-generated summary appear in the AskFred panel on the right side of the live assist pane.

As the meeting runs, Live Assist listens to your discussion and automatically creates dynamic topic suggestions based on what’s being talked about. These appear just below the default options (Follow Up, Catch Up, Summarize So Far, Action Items) and highlight the main themes from your meeting.
For example, you might see topics like “Nine-dot puzzle,” “Fall forward,” or “Broadway completion” based on what’s being discussed. Click any card to view a quick summary or insight in AskFred.
The Dynamic Topic Suggestions feature is available only on paid plans. Free users will see just the four default options.

During a meeting, it’s easy to miss details while you’re speaking or listening. The Live Meeting Notes in Live Assist help you stay organized by capturing everything in real time — notes, transcript, and prep material — all in one view.
When you click the notes icon at the bottom left of the Live Assist pane, it opens a panel with three tabs: AI Notes, Transcript, and Prep. Each tab serves a unique purpose:
AI Notes – Automatically creates structured notes with clear headings, timestamps, and bullet points as people talk, so you don’t need to type manually.
Transcript – Displays the live transcript with speaker names and timestamps. It updates in real time and helps you verify what was said or review a specific point without waiting for the recording.
Prep – Shows meeting preparation details, such as context or reference information, so you can easily follow along and contribute without searching elsewhere.
Together, these tabs make it simple to track, review, and understand every part of your meeting — without ever leaving the Live Assist pane.
Use Copy AI Notes at the top if you want to quickly copy and share everything during or after the meeting.

The AskFred panel is where you can chat directly with AskFred ’s AI during the meeting. It helps you dig deeper, clarify points, or continue a discussion without switching apps.
You can type or click questions based on what’s happening in the meeting. AskFred understands the context and gives instant answers in the same pane.
Here’s what you can do:
Follow up easily – AskFred remembers your previous question, so you can keep asking related follow-ups without rephrasing.
Example “Nine-dot puzzle” and then follow up with “how to apply the 'fall forward' mindset?”

Use AI Apps – Pick from ready-made templates to get structured insights, like summarizing key decisions or extracting tasks.
Choose from ready-made AI Apps — templates designed for quick insights such as summarizing decisions, identifying action items, or extracting discussion points.

Ask manually – Want something specific? Just type your own question.
Example “List all discussion points about suggestions” or “Summarize decisions made so far.”

Ask everyday questions (Web Search) – You can ask simple things during your meeting, and AskFred will search the web in real time to show the answer right inside the pane.
Example“What’s the weather in London right now?”* → AskFred will fetch from the web directly into the pane.

AskFred can pull insights from your current live meeting, past meetings from the last 30 days, and web search.
